Single Malt Whisky is made from One 'Single' Distillery

‘Single’ simply means that all the whiskies used to create a certain flavour profile all comes from one ‘single’ distillery. Simply put; ‘Single’ means a ‘Single Distillery’ whilst ‘Malt’ refer to the type of grain used in the production process and in the case of Single Malts ‘Malt’ means ‘Malted Barley’.

Single Malts are usually the mix of multiple barrels of whiskeys from the same distillery but sometimes you’ll come across a bottle that says ‘Single Barrel’ or ‘Single Cask’ which means which each bottle comes from an individual ageing barrel and not blended together from multiple barrels.

Single Malt Whisky is made from 100% 'Malted' Barley

Produced from nothing but barley in a pot still, the malted barley is mashed and fermented to make the Single Malt Whisky. In fact, the wort creates ABV (Alcohol By Volume) of above or below 7-10%. After the distillation and dilution, ABV of Single Malt Whisky ranges from 40-75% (62.5% for the US).

Single Malt Whisky is made from 2+ pot stills with a pristine combination of unadulterated barley, yeast, and water. On top of the perfect balance on the palette, best single malt scotch whiskeys strictly come from the Scottish oak casks with a maturity of minimum 3 Years +1 day. The rule of thumb is, older the better.
