Tasting and Review by Daniel & Rex in the Whisk(e)y Vault
A brand new Laphroaig expression called Lore. This is bottled at 48% abv and has been matured in a mixture of ex-Bourbon and ex-Sherry casks and also features some quarter cask maturation. They also use a vatting of different ages including some 21 year old single malt. This is sure to sell out very quickly as this offers something different taste wise as it is not as iodine or medicinal as you would expect from Laphroaig and there is some unusual notes of mint, green herbs and peaty garden peas!
Buy two:one to drink and enjoy and one to keep in case it too becomes a delisted line like the 18 year old.
94 points Jim Murray’s Whisky Bible
“A friendly beast worth cuddling up with, this is a stunner.”
A deep mahogany coloured scotch whisky
Rich and smoky with seaside minerals
With a hint of ash and bitter chocolate drops
Vanilla follows with oily unroasted chestnuts and a hint of fudge with a malty sweetness
A drop of water adds a creamy clotted cream note with fruit appearing in the form of unripe citrus in a flan glaze
